A tension arises in Toronto, the world’s most multicultural city: Patients in nursing homes are generally white, while the employees, personal support workers, are in general people of color. Most of the patients were born into a time where racism and segregation was more common than nowadays.

“I love my residents and most of them appreciate me,” states Eulalie Thompson, who has worked in nursing homes in Toronto for more than 30 years.
“But, every day, somebody acts out, hits, calls me `black bitch, nigger.’ What can you do?”
